This Dirty Banana cocktail recipe is a dangerously delicious and boozy frozen drink recipe loaded with rum, banana, coffee, and chocolate flavors!
The Dirty Banana is pretty much the most delicious boozy milkshake ever! Its sweet properties help hide the 3 ounces of alcohol in each serving – which makes them go down real easy.
That’s probably why the Dirty Banana was such a popular item aboard my recent cruise.
Back in March, I had the opportunity to partner with one of my favorite travel companies, Princess Cruises.
And by the end of the week, almost everyone aboard had one of these delicious frozen drinks in hand!
What’s In It?
Princess Cruises makes the Dirty Banana with Gosling’s Dark Rum, Kahlua, Patron XO Cafe Liqueur, cream, chocolate syrup, and fresh banana.
For my version, I used Appleton Rum and Blue Chair Banana Cream Rum (you could also use banana liqueur) for even more banana flavor and omit Patron.
How To Make It:
This is such a simple and fast drink to make and doesn’t require any technique. You’re just going to add all of your ingredients into a blender (this one is my favorite) and blend until smooth.
Drizzle some extra chocolate syrup around your glass before pouring in your drink, then top with whipped cream and a cherry.
And don’t forget to serve it up with a straw – these monkey ones are so fun!!!
And if you really want this thick and creamy, I highly recommend adding a scoop of vanilla ice cream!
Thanks to Princess Cruises OceanMedallion™, ordering drinks like Rum Punch and a Dirty Banana has never been easier!
On OceanReady™ Ships, you’ll be able to order drinks from anywhere on the ship and have them brought to you with the OceanNow™ app – talk about service!
You no longer have to worry about losing your spot by the pool when you go to the bar!
What I Love About This Recipe:
- I love that it’s super easy and fast to make – just 5 minutes and you can be sipping on one of these!
- Pretty much a boozy milkshake – which is pretty much every adult’s dream come true!
- Sweet but not disgusting – the rum and sugar have such a delicious balance in this recipe!
- A crowd pleaser – again, dessert in a glass, who wouldn’t want some!
- Vacation vibes – it takes me back to sea days by the pool and makes me want to book a cruise with friends!

Recently did a cruise to Alaska on the Royal Princess… “Rout”, from the self – proclaimed Route 66 bar introduced me to the Dirty Banana… I loved it. Thank you Rout and Princess for this delicious drink.

What name Jamaican rum, is that a dark rum also?
Rebecca Hubbell says
It is not a dark rum. It is a naturally sweetened rum distilled in Jamaica. I recommend a non-white/silver/light Appleton Estate rum for this recipe.

was introduced to this drink by a customer at the bar on a princess alaskan cruise this past september. have to admit, it replaced all the cocktails i had planned to try on this, my first cruise, with the free beverage package. i won’t be making this at home for myself, but you can be sure i will be enjoying many dirty bananas on my next princess cruise in january 2022. thanks for the ingredients, though.

I just made a pitcher and they were amazing! Used frozen bananas to reduce ice and keep max flavor, and didn’t have banana cream rum (got to get some of that!), so I used 99Bananas instead. It was truly fabulous, and perfect for date nite. 🙂

Muy husband was enamored with the dirty banana and at least had 1 or 2 a day, we were on the Coral Princess last year in May to Alaska

Made it tonight and it was perfect, we both enjoyed it, recipe makes 3 servings in large glasses

I also did the Princess Cruises to Alaska on the Coral and recently to the Caribbean on the Medallion Class Crown. I typically had at least one and maybe three Dirty Bananas…only thing holding me back was I thought they would be 2000 calories each.

Well, I’m glad you found this recipe so you can make them at home!

Tried it…….loved it!! I think I drank something similar to this at Chelsea Street Pub, that was in Highland Mall in Austin, Tx, back in the 70’s and early 80’s; I would remember that taste anytime! Brought back memories from my college days!
