Ingredient Notes
Start making this Christmas Tree Brownie Bites recipe by first grabbing a boxed brownie mix! I love using Ghirardelli Double Chocolate Mix but feel free to grab your favorite!
Then you’ll need the ingredients your boxed mix calls for, usually water, eggs, and oil. Then you’ll bake them in a mini muffin tin to get that ‘brownie bite’ effect.
As the bites are cooling you’ll whip up the homemade buttercream frosting. To make this you’ll need unsalted butter, powdered sugar, heavy cream, salt, and green food coloring.
After the buttercream frosting is piped onto the brownies each Christmas tree dessert is decorated with holiday sprinkles! If you’re really feeling the Christmas spirit you can even top each tree with a star sprinkle!

Frequently Asked Questions
How To Store These Brownie Bites
Carefully place them in an airtight container and store them at room temperature. Eat them within 5 days!
How Come The Sprinkles Are Having Trouble Sticking To The Frosting?
This frosting does start to crust up rather quickly which is supposed to happen since it’s buttercream! However, to ensure that your sprinkles will stick just add them immediately after you pipe the frosting on.
How Do I Thicken Or Thin Out This Frosting?
To thicken the frosting just add the remaining sugar. For a thinner frosting add the remaining cream.
Can I Add Mini Chocolate Chips To The Brownie Batter?
Yes, you can however chocolate chips may sink to the bottom of the batter. So I’d recommend sprinkling a few chocolate chips on top of the batter once it’s in the mini muffin pan.

Christmas Tree Brownie Bites
Ingredients
- 1 box brownie mix plus ingredients called for on the back of the box (usually water, eggs, oil)
- 1 cup unsalted butter softened to room temp
- 3-4 cups powdered sugar
- 3-4 tablespoons heavy cream
- 1 tablespoons vanilla extract
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- Green food coloring
- Holiday sprinkles
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F and grease a mini cupcake pan well with nonstick spray and set aside.
- Prepare the brownie mix according to the box directions and fill each cupcake cavity about ⅔ full with brownie batter.
- Bake for about 15 to 17 minutes until the edges are firm but the center is still slightly soft (but not gooey).
- Remove from the oven and use the back of a round teaspoon to indent the center of each of the brownie cups. Let them cool in the pan for 10 minutes.
- Use a paring knife to help pop them out of the pan and transfer them to a cooling rack to cool completely before frosting.
- While they are cooling, cream the butter on low speed with a paddle attachment until pale and creamy.
- Slowly add in 3 cups of powdered sugar and 3 tbsp heavy cream a little at a time, alternating between each, while mixing on low over the course of about 3 minutes.
- If your frosting needs a more stiff consistency, add remaining sugar. If your frosting needs to be thinned out, add the remaining cream.
- Add vanilla, salt, and food coloring and whip on high speed for 2 minutes.
- Fill a piping bag fitted with a large star tip (I used this one: https://amzn.to/3njvNfX) with the frosting.
- Pipe the frosting onto the cooled cupcakes, twisting back and forth slightly to make a Christmas tree shape.
- Top with sprinkles.
Notes
- I use Ghirardelli Double Chocolate Mix which is 18 ounces and makes about 36 bites. Any mix should work but might make a little more or less.
- Store in an airtight container for up to 5 days at room temperature.
- You will want to add sprinkles quickly since the frosting will start to crust fast and make it hard for the sprinkles to stick.
