This Blueberry Lemonade Tastes Like A New England Summer!
If you’re looking for the perfect lemonade that tastes AND feels like summer, then you’ve come to the right place! This homemade lemonade is bursting with fresh and juicy blueberry flavor, making it taste exactly like a New England Summer!
All that’s missing is that cool, salty coastal breeze!
I’ve always loved Simply Blueberry Lemonade but since I live in New England in a state that is known for its blueberry harvest, it was important to me to create a homemade blueberry lemonade that lived up to its name and then some.
To hit the mark on this lemonade recipe I make it with homemade blueberry simple syrup that’s made with just 3 easy ingredients. And though the ingredients are easy, and the process is simple, the result is a juicy blueberry syrup with an unforgettable flavor that cannot be matched with a store-bought simple syrup.
The blueberry simple syrup provides the lemonade with the best sweet blueberry flavor, and it also means this lemonade recipe is made without any dyes or artificial sweeteners!

Would I Make This Again? Yes, it’s such a great fruity lemonade to work into a summer party!
Blueberry Lemonade Ingredients
The first step to making this homemade blueberry lemonade recipe is to make homemade blueberry simple syrup. This is easily done on the stovetop using just 3 ingredients: blueberries, granulated sugar, and water.
Making the homemade syrup takes 15 minutes or less and gives this lemonade the most amazing, fresh flavor that you just won’t find in a store-bought version!
Once the blueberry syrup has cooled it’s combined with the freshly squeezed lemon juice, water, and lemons for garnish.
How To Make Lemonade With Blueberries
- Prepare the homemade blueberry simple syrup by combining blueberries, granulated sugar, and water in a saucepan.
- Simmer the berry and sugar mixture until the sugar has dissolved and the blueberries are bursting.
- Wash the lemons and then slice them in half. Afterward, use a citrus press to squeeze the juice out of lemons into a liquid measuring cup.
- Remove the blueberry syrup from the heat and allow it to cool. Next, strain the syrup through a fine-mesh sieve, squeezing the blueberries to extract as much juice as possible.
- Combine the freshly squeezed lemon juice, blueberry simple syrup, and cold water in a large pitcher.
- Add sliced lemons into the pitcher and then stir the lemonade to combine.
- Serve the Blueberry Lemonade in highball glasses with ice. Garnish each drink with a lemon slice then enjoy your refreshing drink with a straw!
Serve these up with Blueberry Bars or Blueberry Cobbler!
Fresh or Frozen Blueberries – You can use freshly picked blueberries or frozen, whatever works best for you! If using frozen berries, keep in mind they do yield a little more liquid/syrup.
Pulpy Lemonade – If you’re like me and love pulp in your lemonade, then skip straining the simple syrup through the fine-mesh strainer. The added blueberry puree from the simple syrup will give the lemonade a pulpy consistency.
Sparkling Options – For sparkling lemonade with a sweet fizz you can add 3 cups of lemon-lime soda. Or for a sparkling lemonade that has a light, refreshing bubble add 3 cups of club soda to the blueberry lemonade.
Blueberry Lavender Lemonade – For flavor variation, add lavender to the blueberries when making the simple syrup. This will create a lovely blueberry lavender lemonade that’s just as delicious!
Ice Ring – If you’re serving this lemonade in a punch bowl for a large crowd then I’d recommend placing an ice ring in the bowl with the lemonade like I do with my Summer Punch. This will keep the blueberry lemonade ice-cold with minimal melting, avoiding a watered-down drink. To make an ice ring, I recommend partially filling a bundt with water and fruit garnishes, and then freezing it. Repeat this until you have filled the entire pan up with layers of frozen water and garnishes.
How To Make Blueberry Vodka Lemonade
For an alcoholic homemade blueberry lemonade cocktail first follow the recipe instructions on the recipe card as directed. Then pour the lemonade over ice, add a shot of vodka. and then gently stir.
You can increase or decrease the amount of vodka based on how strongly you desire to make your Blueberry Lemonade Cocktail.
How To Serve Homemade Blueberry Lemonade
This Blueberry Lemonade can easily be enjoyed anywhere. Soak in the sweet, fruity flavor at home, share it with friends and family while hosting, or pack it up to take it to the beach!
- At Home – You can simply pour the lemonade over ice and enjoy. Or you can dress it up with garnishes and a fun straw for a fancy drink you can sip on while hanging at home.
- Small Crowd – If you’re hosting a few friends or family members at home, consider serving it in fun glassware or even mason jars. Then garnish the drink with a cocktail pick using blueberries and lemon wheels. For an added dash of fun, you can slide a fun straw into the drink as well!
- Large Crowd – For hosting larger crowds, you can serve the blueberry lemonade from a punch bowl or large pitcher. To keep it chilled you can add an ice ring that’s been frozen with blueberries and lemon wheels. You could also set up a make-your-own garnish station with fun straws, cocktail picks, blueberries, lemon wheels, and other fruits of your choosing.
- Beach – Transfer the homemade blueberry lemonade into an airtight container and pack it on ice in the cooler to take to the beach. Then you can sip a refreshing drink on the beach in the summer sun while relaxing!
How To Store Lemonade
Store Homemade Blueberry Lemonade in a pitcher with a tight lid or you can cover the top of your pitcher with aluminum foil or plastic wrap. Place the covered pitcher of lemonade in the fridge to enjoy for up to 5 days.
If you chose to make Sparkling Blueberry Lemonade, then you’ll want to consume the lemonade the same day as the carbonation will lose its fizz overtime.

Easy Blueberry Lemonade Recipe
Ingredients
Simple Syrup
- 2 cups blueberries
- 1½ cups granulated sugar
- 1 cup water
Lemonade
- 2 cups lemon juice
- 2 cups blueberry simple syrup whole batch from above
- 8 cups cold water
- 2 lemons sliced for garnish
- ice
Instructions
- Prepare the syrup by combining 2 cups blueberries, 1½ cups granulated sugar, and 1 cup water in a small saucepan.
- Bring the berry syrup mixture to a simmer over medium heat. Simmer for 10 minutes; the sugar should have dissolved, and the berries should be bursting.
- While the simple syrup simmers, wash the 2 cups lemon juice, then slice them in half and use a citrus press to squeeze the juice out of the roasted lemons into a liquid measuring cup.
- Remove the syrup from heat and allow to cool in the pot for 20 minutes, then strain through a fine-mesh sieve, squeezing the berries to extract as much juice as possible. You can also just use the whole recipe without straining, I love the pulp from the berries in this!
- In a pitcher, combine the lemon juice, 2 cups blueberry simple syrup (you will have some leftover – make blueberry sangria with it!), and 8 cups cold water.
- Slice 2 lemons into 8 slices and add 4 to the lemonade, then stir to combine.
- Serve in a highball glass with ice and garnish each with a lemon slice. Serve with a straw.
Notes
- This lemonade is on the tart and vibrant side; feel free to add additional simple syrup if desired. You can microwave equal parts sugar and water until dissolved to make plain simple syrup.
- For a sparkling lemonade, add 3 cups lemon-lime soda for a sweet fizz or club soda for a light and refreshing bubble.
