The Best Alfredo Sauce Recipe made Parmesan cheese, garlic, butter, and cream AND a secret ingredient that makes this simple sauce super rich and creamy! It only takes 10 minutes to make!
It’s a homemade copycat version of the famous Princess Cruises recipe. This sauce is between a traditional cream sauce and a carbonara and everyone will love this recipe!
This homemade Alfredo Sauce is was pasta sauce dreams are made of, it’s a rich and creamy white cheese sauce that’s perfect for coating fettuccine or dipping breadsticks in.
This recipe is a copycat version of the amazing Sauce Princess Cruises serves aboard their fleet of ships and I’m excited to be partnering with them on this post to share the recipe with all of you!
I’ve been all over the world in the past few years, but it wasn’t until about two months ago that I went on my very first cruise.
Thanks to Princess Cruises, I was able to walk the white sand beaches of the Caribbean, browse colorful locally-owned shops, and even lounge in a real-life tiki bar off the coast of Mexico.
How Do You Make It?
This is a super simple recipe to make. All you need is a few basic ingredients and 10 minutes! Then toss it with some pasta and enjoy!
Not only does this recipe mimic the one served on Princess Cruises, but it’s also a scrumptious take on the classic comfort food that’s sure to become a favorite meal in your home.
In this version, heavy cream and butter blends with tangy parmesan cheese and a touch of garlic, cracked pepper, and sea salt. Then eggs yolks – the secret ingredient – add depth and richness to the sauce.
What Is It Made Of?
Traditionally, this white sauce recipe is made with just butter, heavy cream, and Parmesan cheese. But I’ve added some extra ingredients to increase its richness and flavor.
To make this Alfredo Sauce recipe, you’ll only need simple ingredients that you likely already have in your fridge!
- Butter
- Egg Yolks
- Heavy Cream
- Parmesan Cheese
- Black Pepper
- Salt
- minced garlic or garlic powder (optional)
The addition of egg yolks makes this Alfredo sauce a borderline carbonara, but because it has heavy cream in it, it isn’t a true carbonara sauce either. Carbonara sauce at its base is just eggs and cheese.
I’ve been in planes, trains, and automobiles, but to be honest, before boarding the Crown Princess cruise ship, I was a little apprehensive about taking a vacation at sea.
But one of my biggest concerns (because I think with my stomach) centered around what there’d be to eat on the ship. After all, we’d be “stuck” with the choices that were given to us – right?
But I’m happy to report that the huge assortment of quality, fresh food was one of the most pleasant surprises I discovered on my first cruise.
On the Crown Princess, there are restaurants and dining options galore for vacationers of all ages.
The main kitchen is constantly cooking to ensure everything stays fresh, baking bread around the clock, serving up sauces made from scratch.
Even offering steaks that are aged and hand-cut onboard (just to name a few). And you must know about their homemade ice cream, which was made in batches every single day!
Needless to say, Princess Cruises have an amazing array of tasty foods from casual burgers to decadent multi-course meals for any mood or palate.
But out of all the drool-worthy choices available for hungry vacationers (including hardcore foodies like me), one of the best dishes served on the cruise line is their famous Alfredo sauce.
I can tell you from experience, there’s a reason that this homemade sauce is renown. Rich, creamy, and made from scratch, the pasta Alfredo was one of the best meals I enjoyed during my week on the Crown Princess.
And everyone loves alfredo, right? And I promise the Olive Garden Fettucine Alfredo doesn’t even compare to this recipe!
This dish proves that simplicity is oftentimes best, this sauce should be made with just a handful of quality ingredients. You won’t find any cream cheese in this recipe!
How Do You Dress Up Alfredo Sauce?
- For Chicken Alfredo, add some grilled or pan-seared chicken breast.
- Sautéed broccoli makes this dish nice and hearty!
- You could also add Italian seasonings for a flavor boost!
- And if you’re really feeling crazy, add a handful of bacon crumbles!
The best thing about this recipe (other than how tasty it is) is that it takes about 10 minutes to make! Top it with a sprinkling of freshly grated Parmesan cheese and you’ll have a restaurant-quality dish that everyone will be begging for.
Whenever I need a quick dinner I’m going to indulge in a creamy bowl of Homemade Fettuccine Alfredo!

I prepared this recipe the end of February for my parents and I. Out of the Park!!!!!!! Since my girlfriend works as a server at a Hi-end restaurant, her favorite dish is Alfredo. So, I made her this recipe with chicken, fresh garlic and broccoli added. (Also, I make my own fettuccine from scratch….. the best). With a fresh tossed salad, homemade Baguette and wine, of course….. she’s a very happy woman. She said this is the best recipe she’s Ever had in her life. That’s saying a lot since she really knows her food.
Thank you for sharing this recipe. The world definitely is a better place at the dinner table because of it,

I thought this would be a good first recipe for my 12 year old daughter to make on her own. She did a good job, but unfortunately the sauce seemed to clump (maybe curdle?) after the pasta was put in, which seemed strange since it looked smooth before that. I guess it looked a little like the egg scrambled slightly? Any suggestions as to what went wrong? We still ate it of course cause pasta alfredo is one of her favorite dishes. Will try again of course!
Rebecca Hubbell says
Hi Kelly, I’m glad that you chose this recipe to make and I hope that your daughter had fun making it. It sounds like you had a light separation/curdle when the pasta was added, this is likely due to some excess heat the pasta retained from cooking. The sauce shouldn’t curdle or separate if kept less than 145 degrees F, if the pasta is very hot, it could cause the sauce to overcook a bit. It’s still safe to eat, but I understand wanting a silky smooth sauce. Next time try letting thbe pasta sit for a few minutes after cooking and toss occasionally to release any trapped heat before adding to the sauce. I hope this helps for next time and I’ll be sure to add a note to the post for others.

Could you add in other flavors of cheese and use this as a base for mac and cheese?

Hi Ann, I’m not entirely sure as I have never tried it, were you thinking a stovetop or a baked mac and cheese?
