Shredded cheddar cheese is then sprinkled over the cut-up biscuits. Afterward, cooked ground breakfast sausage that’s seasoned with onion powder, salt, and ground black pepper is layered on top.

Make Ahead Instructions for Sausage Gravy Casserole
Assemble all of the ingredients and then tightly wrap the dish with foil or plastic wrap. Then place it in the fridge overnight.
It’s VERY important to note that if you prepare it in a ceramic or glass dish, it will need to sit at room temperature for a bit to avoid shattering when put in a hot oven. It also may take a few extra minutes to bake since the casserole will be starting out chilled.
How To Store Leftover Sausage Biscuit Gravy Casserole
Simply wrap the baking dish with leftovers tightly with aluminum foil or plastic wrap. Then store it in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
The leftovers can also be stored in the freezer for up to 3 months.
How To Reheat Biscuits and Gravy Casserole
If the leftovers have been stored in the refrigerator, you can just transfer a serving to a microwave-safe plate. Then pop them in the microwave to be heated.
If the leftovers are frozen, place them in the fridge to thaw overnight. Then in the morning, you can wrap the dish tightly in foil and then heat it in the oven for 20 minutes at 350 degrees F.
Biscuits and Gravy Casserole FAQs
Yes, making this recipe in a 9×13-inch dish instead of a 7×11-inch one will work just fine. The casserole will just be a little thinner, so it will also cook a bit faster.
You can use any milk that you have on hand, I just enjoy the richness of the whole milk.
You could even make it richer by substituting half and half for some of the milk.
There is quite a bit of gravy, but it really soaks up while cooking!
Just use 1 (2.3oz.) package of gravy; this will make 2 cups of gravy. I’d recommend using a pepper or pork gravy mix for the best results.
Yes, however, I would suggest cutting each one into 8 pieces. If not, they’ll take too long to bake.
Monterey Jack, Colby, or Gouda would all be a great choice!
