Cheesy Sausage Dip is your new easy go-to appetizer for game day! Made with crumbled sausage, diced tomatoes, cheddar cheese, cream cheese, mustard, green pepper, and spices, it’s addictively zesty and comforting for fall.
This Sausage Cheese Dip recipe has everything you could want in a game-day snack: Savory flavors, spice, and lots of ooey, gooey cheese!
Whether you’ve got family over to watch Sunday sports or you’re spending time with friends for happy hour at home, try whipping up this crowd-pleasing cheese dip.
It’s made in a cast-iron skillet, or you can even cook it in a crockpot. Serve with tortilla chips or crackers, and you’re good to go!
Some Sausage Cheese Dips only have 3 ingredients, but this one has more and the flavor is far superior, in my opinion. Plus there are more ways to customize the heat with this recipe.

- Base: For a creamy, melty texture, this dip is made with a Cabot Cabot 4 Cheese Mexican blend and cream cheese. A can of Hunt’s diced tomatoes also adds texture and richness.
- Spices/Condiments: A pack of McCormick’s Tex-Mex Chili brings the spice! And you can’t have a game day without mustard, which is mixed in, too!
- Mix-Ins: Johnsonville’s Sweet Italian Sausage is already ground for a crumbly texture. There’s also chopped green peppers because you can’t have sausage without them! You can also use hot sausage in this recipe.
How To Make Sausage Dip
This recipe is super easy and only takes about 15 minutes to make!
- Add sausage and diced bell pepper to a large skillet and brown the sausage over medium heat until the sausage is no longer pink.
- Drain excess grease from the pan.
- Add in the cream cheese, tomatoes, spices, and mustard.
- Add in the shredded cheese and stir frequently until melted.
Feel free to add in jalapeno pepper to the mix or on top before serving. I also like adding fresh cherry tomatoes, green onion, and cilantro.
Expert Tip: If the mixture cools and starts to dry out or you have leftovers, add 1/4 cup of whole milk or heavy cream when you reheat it to make it gooey again.
Crockpot Directions
This recipe is also super easy to make in a crock pot and is an easy way to keep the dip warm and gooey during longer events!
- Brown the meat with the green peppers and drain the grease as you would if you were making it in a skillet.
- Then, add everything to your slow cooker and cook for 1 to 2 hours on low, until the cheese is melted and the dip is gooey. Reduce heat to warm and serve straight from the slow cooker.
