This 4-ingredient Cocoa Pebbles Treats Recipe takes less than 10 minutes to make. The result is a batch of crispy, chewy, marshmallowy squares that are perfect for just about any occasion.
How Do You Make Cocoa Pebbles Treats?
Step 1: Begin by lining a 9×13-inch baking dish with aluminum foil and spraying the foil with non-stick spray and set aside.
Step 2: In a large saucepan, melt the butter over low heat. Once the butter has melted, add in 8 cups of the marshmallows and stir continuously with a rubber spatula until the butter and marshmallows have melted and blended together.
Step 3: Remove from heat and add in the cereal, vanilla, and the remaining 2 cups of marshmallows and stir until well coated.
Step 4: Transfer the mixture to the prepared pan coated with cooking spray. Spray your hands with non-stick spray and gently press the mixture into the pan, don’t press down too hard or you’ll end up with hard treats.
Step 5: Once assembled, let the treats cool at room temperature; about 20 minutes. Remove from the pan and cut into 2-inch squares. They’re best served the same day.
Are Cocoa Pebbles Treats Gluten-Free?
You can make this recipe celiac-friendly by using gluten-free ingredients. The Pebbles cereals are labeled as gluten-free, however, Cocoa Krispies are not, as they contain malt (which is from barley). Chances are, you can also find allergy-friendly versions of these cereals, too.
Don’t forget, you’ll also want to make sure to use marshmallows that are made in a gluten-free facility. To be safe, just be sure to read all labels.
Are Cocoa Pebbles Treats Dairy-Free?
These tasty treats are not dairy-free since they’re made with butter, but you can make an easy substitution. Replace the butter with 4 tablespoons of coconut oil (and again, read the labels of the other ingredients), and you’ll have a dairy-free version of this recipe.
Can You Use Other Cereals In Cocoa Pebbles Treats?
Yes! You can get creative by using your family’s favorite cereal! Use this simple recipe to make Fruity Pebbles Treats, Cap’n Crunch Treats (just reduce the butter by 2 tablespoons), and of course, the tried-and-true Rice Krispies Treats!
Yep, these treats are a win-win: they’re super easy to make, plus everyone loves them! Whip up a batch of Cocoa Pebbles Treats for your next gathering, or for the family any night of the week!

What would the approximate amount be if it was measured based on weight? Like, how many bags of mini marshmallows (they’re 10 oz) and cereal boxes (11 oz. Or 27.5 oz.) would I need to buy to make this?
Rebecca Hubbell says
It’s not an exact amount, but about 2 bags of marshmallows and a family size box of cereal should cover what you need.
Joy Weiss says
Made this I today for a quick and tasty treat for the family!
MarkyMark says
What is the purpose for the “vanilla extract”? Is it a must have or can you get by w/o it???
Rebecca Hubbell says
It’s for flavor, you can omit it if you’d like.

These were really good. I made the gluten free version with Cocoa Pebbles and threw in a cup chocolate chips because – why not? And it turned out super chocately and delicious.
Rebecca Hubbell says
So glad you enjoyed them – nothing wrong with a little extra chocolate!
Sarah says
Delicious and easy! I used big marshmallows because that’s all I had and they turned out great. I actually like the taste of these more than regular rice crispy treats. The fam loved them too since they’re all chocoholics 🤎🍫
Erica says
I just made a batch of these and I can’t wait to dig in! I’ve been teased for years about my inedible, rock hard cereal treats but I feel like I may have redeemed myself with this recipe!
Carson says
What’s the point of using aluminum foil and then spraying it with cooking spray?
Rebecca Hubbell says
Using aluminum foil or parchment paper makes it easy to lift the treats out of the pan for slicing. It also makes the pan easier to clean. However, the treats will stick to ungreased aluminum or parchment and cause it to tear leaving possible pieces on the treat.

So my man loves chocolate more than he loves me and i made these for him but i substituted 2 cops of chopped up whoppers for 2 of the cups of coco crispies and they were AMAZING!!!!!! I’m not much of a sweets person but he may have to fight me for some of these!!
Luciana says
These are awesome. Thanks!
Daniel says
Looking forward to making these! What comparable measurement would you give if you already have big marshmallows?
Rebecca Hubbell says
Each cup of mini marshmallows is about 2 ounces or 8 regular sized marshmallows. With regular sized marshmallows the last two reserved cups won’t mix as well because they are too big, but don’t melt them into the rest because they will make the treats gummy. You could try cutting the remaining 2 cups worth into smaller pieces before mixing in with the cereal at the end.
