Dirty Soda is made with Coke, coconut creamer, and lime juice for a deliciously indulgent soda shoppe style drink served over ice and perfect for sipping on a hot summer day or as a dessert treat!
Utah’s popular Dirty Soda trend is now taking the world by storm with unique sweet beverage combinations made from soda, coffee creamer, fruit juice, and more! There are a million different flavor combinations to try, but this is a classic!
What Is Dirty Soda?
For many who haven’t traveled to Utah in the last decade, Dirty Soda is a wholly new concept. Originally rising to popularity in the state about a decade ago when the Church of Latter-day Saints clarified its position on caffeine and soda.
And to this day, popular shops like Swig (also famous for their pink frosted cookies) and Sodalicious have made wildly successful businesses out of crazy soda concoctions made with soda, milk or creamer, simple syrups, fruit, and more! Kind of like an Italian Soda but more extreme!
Recently, Olivia Rodrigo posted an Instagram photo of herself holding a Swig cup, and suddenly everyone wants to know what the hype is around this popular soda trend! So, if you’re here because you heard about the trend on TikTok, and now you’ve gotta try it and see what the fuss is about, you’ve come to the right place!

How Does It Taste?
I know this drink sounds odd, but this particular recipe is sweet and creamy. The lime isn’t overly strong, it simply helps to add a bit of brightness to an otherwise very sugary drink. The creamer adds just the right amount of coconut that really works with the Coke. If you’re a fan of coconut coffee or flavored Coke, I really think you’ll like this.
Dirty Soda Ingredients
Everyone has a favorite, but this classic flavor combo, also known as The Founder, is the perfect introductory Dirty Soda to try! This is the TikTok version and takes a couple of shortcuts, but I’ve included the original Dirty Soda recipe below! The original uses Diet Coke, but we prefer classic Coca-Cola in ours!
From there, we’ll add coconut creme coffee creamer and fresh-squeezed lime juice to balance out the sweetness. Mix everything together in a large glass with ice and enjoy immediately!
The original Dirty Soda “The Founder” is made with Diet Coke, coconut simple syrup, lime juice, and heavy cream – here’s a traditional recipe for Swig Dirty Soda.
Ingredients
- 8 ounces diet Coke
- ½ ounce coconut simple syrup
- ½ ounce fresh lime juice
- 2 ounces heavy cream
- Lime slice, for garnish
Directions
- Fill a glass halfway with ice.
- Pour in the Coke, coconut simple syrup, and lime juice.
- Slowly pour the heavy cream in.
- Garnish with a lime slice and serve with a straw.
- Stir before enjoying.
You might notice in the photos that the cream looks curdled, this is due to the reaction the cream has when close to the ice. It has an almost frozen state which makes it appear this way, but I promise that this drink is not unpleasant or chunky to drink.
Dirty Soda Recipe Ideas
The flavor possibilities with this fun dirty soda trend are positively endless. Here are a few popular ones from the shops and a few I came up with!
- Orange Creamsicle: Orange soda and coconut creme creamer.
- Endless Summer: Mountain Dew, pomegranate juice, lime juice, and coconut creme creamer.
- Raspberry Dream: Dr Pepper, coconut creme creamer, and raspberry simple syrup.
- Melted Root Beer Float: Root Beer and vanilla coffee creamer.
- Strawberries & Cream: Strawberry soda and vanilla coffee creamer OR cream soda, strawberry simple syrup, and vanilla creamer.
- Naughty & Nice: Dr Pepper, toffee simple syrup, and half & half (or just toffee creamer).
- Beach Babe: Mountain Dew, raspberry simple syrup, peach simple syrup, and vanilla creamer.
- Dirty Shirley: Not to be confused with my Dirty Shirley cocktail, this recipe takes the classic mocktail made with lemon-lime soda and grenadine and adds some cream!
We love using homemade simple syrups, but there are so many great Torani flavors that you might find it worth investing in a big bottle instead! Also, they are pretty affordable, and a bottle goes a long way!

How do you keep the cream from separating? Mine always looks separated and curdled but tastes fine.
Rebecca Hubbell says
You’ll have to keep stirring it since the densities of the liquids are different.
