Oreo Snowman Cookies Recipe Ingredients
This snowman cookie recipe is written to make two dozen cookies. Therefore, you’ll want a 15.35oz package of Oreos.
To dip the cookies, Ghirardelli white melting wafers are needed. I find this brand of wafers melts down easily and dips smoothly!
However, you can also use white chocolate chips! Once the cookies are dipped, they’re decorated with black sugar pearl sprinkles, orange tic tacs, M&Ms, and sour punch straws.
If you’re looking for a shortcut, grab a package of white fudge-covered Oreos! This way you can skip the messy dipping but still enjoy the fun of decorating.
To take the short cut you’ll just need a small portion of melted white chocolate. This will then be used to dab on the backs of the decorations so that they stick to the cookie.
Helpful Tips & Tricks When Making These Easy Cookies
- Small Batches – Working in small batches allow ample time to place decorations while the chocolate is still melted. That way, they firm up with the chocolate and adhere securely to the cookie. To do this, I melt the chocolate a little at a time so I don’t leave the chocolate to harden in the bowl.
- Melting – You can melt the Ghirardelli white melting wafers in a double boiler or a microwave. Just follow the package instructions to properly melt the chocolate in the microwave so it doesn’t burn!
- Dipping – Use a tall wide, mouth glass or a bowl for dipping to ensure the cookies can be fully submerged. I find that using a fork or dipping tool works well! It’s best to tap the fork or tool gently against the side of the bowl to remove any excess chocolate.
- Chilling – Once a baking sheet full of snowmen has been made, slide it into the fridge to set. The chilling process hardens the melted chocolate, securing the decorations to the cookie.
Fun And Delicious Variations To Try!
- Mouth! If you can’t find sugar pearls for the mouth, try using black confetti sprinkles! Mini chocolate chips could also be used on these Oreo Snowman Cookies.
- Nose! Orange sprinkles could be used in place of the orange tic tacs for the nose. Wilton also carries snowman cookie decorations! The pack has black sugar pearls and little carrot-shaped sprinkles for the nose.
- Earmuffs! You can get really creative with the earmuffs! M&Ms can be replaced with skittles, peppermint candies, or sprees candy. And the earmuff strap can be replaced with Twizzlers pull n peel! Feel free to get creative with your idea using your favorite candy!
- Cookie Icing! Instead of using sprinkles and tic tacs to make the snowman’s face, you can use cookie icing. Grab orange and black to draw the face on!
- Cookie Variations! Though these cookies are made with Double Stuf Oreos you can make them with other Oreos! Mega stuf, mint, peanut butter, and even peppermint would all be fun flavors for snowmen cookies!
- Add A Stick! Place the snowmen on a lollipop stick! Then wrap it in cellophane and tie it off with colored twine or a holiday ribbon. Gift them away or watch your kid’s excitement with the added detail to these Oreo Snowman Cookies!
What’s The Best Way To Store These Oreo Snowman Cookies?
Store these snowman cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 weeks. I’d recommend separating the layers of cookies in the container with parchment paper.
That way the cookies don’t stick together or mess up the snowmen’s edible decorations!
How Can I Make These Snowman Cookies If I’m Not A Fan Of Oreos?
If you’re not a fan of Oreos, you can use a sugar cookie base! You can get a package of pre-made sugar cookie dough to bake or make Classic Christmas Sugar Cookies.
Once the cookies have been baked and cooled, you can add canned frosting or this 5 ingredient American Buttercream Frosting! Then you continue on with the edible decorating in the recipe instructions!
Can I Just Make A Small Batch Of These Cookies?
Yes, to make a small batch, just melt a small portion of chocolate as you go. That way, you don’t have any waste and can save the wafer to make them again another time!
