How To Make Edible Cookie Dough
- Heat treat the flour and let it cool.
- Add peanut butter, butter, light brown sugar, and granulated sugar to a medium bowl.
- Cream the butters and sugars together until light and fluffy.
- Add cream, vanilla, and salt and beat until smooth.
- Beat in the cooled flour, the dough will look crumbly.
- Fold in your mix-ins of choice with a rubber spatula and enjoy.
How To Heat Treat Flour
Heat treating flour is an important step in any recipe where the flour doesn’t actually get cooked. Heating raw flour to 160 degrees F kills any bacteria and makes it safe to eat and easier to digest.
Microwave: This is the method I use in this recipe and is just so easy and fast! Simply add the flour to a bowl and microwave for FIVE 15-second intervals, stirring between each one. Let the flour cool then use in the recipe.
Oven: Another easy method is spreading the flour out on a rimmed baking sheet and baking at 350 degrees F for 5 to 6 minutes.
It’s important to let the flour cool completely before use so that it doesn’t melt any of the ingredients and make the dough too soft.
What Can I Make With This Recipe?
- Use a medium cookie scoop to portion out the cookie dough into balls then rolls and chill for a few minutes before dipping in melted chocolate to make truffles.
- Make a peanut butter version of my Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Cake! You’ll want to double this cookie dough recipe and use my Peanut Butter Frosting for even more peanut butter flavor!
- Make a half batch and roll them into mini balls and add them into homemade vanilla or chocolate ice cream with peanut butter and fudge swirls!
How Long Is It Good For?
You can enjoy this edible cookie dough for 4 to 5 days when stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
Can You Freeze It?
Absolutely! Simply prepare the recipe and freeze in an airtight container for up to 3 months. Remove and let thaw in the refrigerator for several hours before enjoying for best texture.
Can You Bake It?
I wouldn’t recommend baking this dough. If you’re craving actual peanut butter cookies then try my classic Peanut Butter Cookies recipe or my Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Cookies.
