This Irish Mule Cocktail is a bright mix of smooth Irish whiskey, zesty ginger beer, and tart fresh squeezed lime juice and it’s sure to make you want to dance this St. Patrick’s Day!
When the calendar finally flips to March you can also catch me sipping on Irish Coffee and Guinness & Champagne Black Velvet Cocktail! Both Irish drink recipes are ready in 5 minutes or less just like this Irish Mule Cocktail!
This Irish Mule is a refreshing whiskey twist on the classic Moscow Mule cocktail, also known as an Irish Buck, Dublin Mule, or Jameson Mule. It’s a simple 3-ingredient cocktail that’s perfect for St. Patrick’s Day!
This is one of my all-time favorite cocktails! The Mule/Buck family of cocktails are pretty basic, they have a base spirit paired with ginger ale or beer and a splash of citrus.
What Is An Irish Mule?
This cocktail is actually an Irish twist on the popular Moscow Mule! It swaps out the vodka base for Irish Whiskey. However, it still has the same vibrant lime juice and bite of ginger beer that you’re used to!
With just three ingredients plus ice, this makes for an easy St. Patrick’s Day Cocktail or something simple you can whip up when you just feel like unwinding after a long week.
Ingredient Notes
This Irish Mule Cocktail Recipe is easy to make and requires minimal effort! After quickly combining the ingredients you’ll be sipping this drink in minutes! To make a cocktail you’ll need:
- Ice – This will keep the drink nice and chilled. Just how we like it!
- Irish Whiskey – I used Jameson Irish Whiskey. Feel free to make this cocktail with your own favorite Irish Whiskey though!
- Ginger Beer – Adds sweet, zesty flavor to the drink!
- Lime Juice – Fresh squeezed lime juice creates the best flavor!
- Garnishes – Lime slices or wedges.
If you’d like you can add some fun to the cocktails by serving them in copper mule mugs. Since there’s no vodka in the recipe the copper mug doesn’t have the same impact on the flavors. So a traditional tall glass will work just as well!
How To Make An Irish Mule:
- Fill a tall glass about 3/4 of the way with ice. Feel free to also add a lime wedge or two.
- Pour the whiskey and the lime juice over the ice and stir.
- Pour in the ginger beer.
- Garnish with a lime wedge or slice. Serve and enjoy!
Frequently Asked Questions
How Many Cocktails Does This Recipe Make?
It makes just one! But the ingredients and instructions are super easy, making it quick and effortless to make as many as you need or like!
What’s The Difference Between Ginger Ale And Ginger Beer?
Ginger beer has a stronger spiced ginger flavor thanks to the brewing and fermentation process it goes through when being made. Whereas ginger ale’s taste is milder with a water base that’s been flavored with a ginger-infused syrup.
I personally wouldn’t suggest swapping the ginger beer out for ginger ale. Doing so would cause the cocktail to lose quite a bit of flavor.
Are There Other Irish Whiskey’s That Would Work Well In This Cocktail?
I really love Jameson Irish Whiskey but you can use any Irish Whiskey you can get your hands on. It doesn’t need to be top-notch whiskey by any means.
A few good options of Irish Whiskey include Redbreast, Bushmills, Teeling Single Grain, or Dead Rabbit.
