How To Bake A Cookie Cake From Scratch:
This Cookie Cake is such an easy recipe to make. You don’t have to chill the dough, which means you can prep and bake the cookie in about 30 minutes.
- Preheat oven to 350° F and line a 9″ round cake pan with parchment paper and grease with cooking spray.
- In a large bowl, using a hand mixer or a stand mixer fitted with a paddle attachment, cream the butter and sugars together until light and fluffy.
- Add the eggs, one at a time, mixing well between each addition. Add in the vanilla.
- Whisk the flour, baking soda, corn starch, and salt together in a medium bowl and add to the butter mixture and mix on low until just combined. Fold in the M&M’s.
- Transfer and press the cookie dough into an even layer in the prepared cake pan. Top with a few more M&M’s, if desired.
- Bake until the cookie is golden brown, about 25 minutes. Let the cookie cake cool in the pan completely before running a knife around the edge of the cake and transferring it to a cake stand.
- Prepare and transfer the frosting to a piping bag fitted with a large star tip. Pipe the frosting around the edge of the cooled cookie cake and top with additional M&M’s. Slice into wedges.
Everyone Will Love This M&M’s Cookie Cake!
The result is a deep-dish cookie that’s golden brown on the outside and soft and chewy on the inside. Dotted with colorful M&M’s, it looks like it’s full of confetti when sliced.
And the finishing touch is everyone’s favorite part of a cake, which is …
The frosting!
That’s right, this decadent M&M’s Cookie Cake has dollops of chocolate frosting around the edges. There’s just enough for a taste of that sweet, creamy confection without being too much.
After all, you can’t have cake without frosting, right?!
Serve up slices of this delicious dessert alongside glasses of ice-cold milk. It’s a craveable combination that everyone will enjoy.
I also recommend adding a scoop or two of vanilla ice cream on the side. You can even stick candles in this Cookie Cake if you’re celebrating a birthday.
M&M’s Cookie Cake is a non-traditional cake full of traditional flavors that’ll please crowds of all ages! Bake one up for the next special occasion, birthday … or just for fun!
Can Cookie Cake Be Frozen?
Absolutely! I highly recommend freezing it after baking but before frosting. Store in an airtight container and freeze for up to 3 months. Let thaw at room temperature.
You can also freeze the dough and let it thaw in the fridge before baking. It may take a few additional minutes to bake since the dough will be chilled.
How Long Will A Cookie Cake Stay Fresh?
If kept in an airtight container, the cake should stay fresh for at least 1 week.
Notes About This Cookie Cake Recipe:
- This cake will be slightly underdone in the center, and a toothpick will not come clean.
- The cake needs to cool completely in the pan in order to be stable enough to move, slice, and decorate.
- M&M’s can be replaced with chocolate chips if desired.

Rebecca Hubbell says
You’d find it in the liquor aisle at the grocery store – I use Godiva brand. A liquor store may have small nips of it. You can omit it from the recipe if desired.

I followed the recipe exactly and after cooling, it was still raw inside. I put back in for another 10, checked it, then back in for another 8 (total of 43 minutes) — still not baked through like it should be. Looks and smells good, but the directions or measurements need adjusting. I ended up throwing away.
