About These Thanksgiving Shots
Taste: Grab a shot and enjoy all the fall flavor they have to offer! The combination of the pumpkin spice pudding and cinnamon notes in the Rumchata is perfect for the season!
Texture: These shots are made with whole milk and cool whip, giving them a dreamy, creamy texture! Top them with a light and fluffy cool whip topping and you’ll see just how quickly (and easily!) these go down!
What’s In Pumpkin Pie Pudding Shots
- Pumpkin Spice Pudding Mix – The ingredient that gives these shots their delicious pumpkin flavor! This must be the dry, instant pudding mix and not cook and serve. If you have trouble finding it in stores since it’s seasonal, you can order it on Amazon (affiliate link). Use one of the other boxes of pudding mix to make my Pumpkin Oreo Cookies!
- Milk – I used whole milk since I find it gives these shots a nice consistency. Feel free to use fat-free milk or your choice of milk alternative instead.
- Alcohol – For this Pumpkin Pie Pudding Shots Recipe I used Rumchata. Its vanilla, cinnamon flavor is a tasty addition to the pumpkin taste of these shots.
- Cool Whip – My secret ingredient that makes these shots extra creamy and super delicious! For a lighter mousse-like texture you can use a full tub of cool whip instead of half.
- Orange Food Coloring – Only if you want the pudding to be a deeper orange color!
Top Off Your Pumpkin Pie Pudding Shots With Garnishes!
- Give them more pumpkin pie flavor by sprinkling them with crushed graham crackers! Although I only recommend doing this right before serving so they don’t get soggy.
- Fall-themed sprinkles found in your local grocery store’s seasonal aisle would dress these shots up!
- A dollop of Perfect Homemade Whipped Cream on top of each shot is a must!
- Add a little taste of chocolate to them by sprinkling on some mini chocolate chips or chocolate curls!

Storage Instructions
Keep these pudding shots stored in the refrigerator. Enjoy them within one week of making them!
Can I Make These Pudding Shots Ahead Of Time?
Absolutely! I actually think they have more flavor after 6 hours or more of chill time. If you make them ahead of time, be sure to use lids on the plastic containers for easier storage. I also suggest waiting to top them with whipped cream and sprinkles right before serving.
When prepared ahead of time you can store them in the fridge for a week or in the freezer for up to 2 months. If stored in the freezer be sure to leave room at the top of the container so there’s room for the pudding to expand.
Can These Be Made With Sugar-Free Pudding Mix?
I’ve never made this recipe with sugar-free pudding mix but I believe it should be fine. That being said, I don’t think they make a sugar-free pumpkin flavor.
How Many Shots Will This Recipe Make?
When using 2oz. plastic condiment containers (affiliate link) this recipe will make around 24 shots.
Is There A Way To Make These Pudding Shots With A Stronger Alcohol Content?
If you’re looking for a stronger shot, try making these pumpkin pie pudding shots with vodka. Or any other alcohol that has a higher alcohol content than Rumchata. You can also make them with Pumpkin Spice Kahlua!
