Caramel Rice Krispie Treats Ingredient Notes
This Krispies treats recipe uses some of the basic ingredients from my classic Rice Krispie Treats as well as some add-ins to create this tasty salted caramel version!
- Rice Krispies Cereal – I recommend starting with an unopened box of cereal for freshness!
- Mini Marshmallows – Once melted, these are the binding agent that holds this delicious treat together!
- Salted Butter – Salted butter will help offset the sweetness from the marshmallows and caramels!
- Sweetened Condensed Milk – This will help these treats stay softer and chewier for longer!
- Soft Caramels – I used Kraft but feel free to use what you prefer!
- Salt – Like the salted butter, this helps to offset the sweetness in this recipe as well!
- Vanilla Extract – Enhances the flavor of the marshmallows!
- Optional Toppings – Caramel Sauce to drizzle over the top as well as flakey salt to sprinkle over them!
How To Make Salted Caramel Rice Krispies Treats
- Melt the butter and then add in the sweetened condensed milk and stir until fully incorporated.
- Add in the caramels and continue stirring until melted. Afterward, add in the vanilla and salt.
- Stir in 6 1/2 cups of marshmallows until melted.
- Remove from heat and add the Rice Krispies cereal and remaining mini marshmallows into the marshmallow mixture.
- Transfer the rice Krispies mixture to the prepared baking sheet and gently press them into the pan. Finish this treat off by drizzling caramel sauce for an added caramel layer and flakey salt over the top!
Tips For Perfect Rice Krispies Treats!
- Don’t press the mixture into the pan too hard! This will likely result in tough, hard rice Krispies treats!
- Coat your hands with cooking spray, or use a piece of parchment paper to gently press the squares into the pan without getting all sticky!
- Allow the treats to cool completely to allow them to set up before cutting them up into squares!
- Reserving marshmallows to stir in with the cereal allows for added marshmallow flavor! Trust me, it’s a delicious element you don’t want to miss out on!
How To Store
Store these krispie treats in an airtight container for up to a week! But I bet any leftovers get eaten up much sooner!
How Come My Caramel Rice Krispie Treats Came Out Hard?
It could be that the marshmallow mixture was cooked too long, or they may have gotten pressed into the pan too hard.

These were AMAZING and the 1st pan was gone in the blink of an eye. My only comment was the bottoms were pretty gooey from the caramel mixture. Made a 2nd pan a few days later, added another 1/2 cup of rice crispies and that was perfect! 10 outta 10!!
