This juicy, sweet homemade Berry Compote makes for a thick, fruity topping that elevates everything from cheesecake to pancakes! Made with only 4 ingredients, it packs a ton of flavor that will have you putting it on everything in sight!

Instructions

  • Add 16 ounces frozen mixed berries and ½ cup light brown sugar to a small pot and cook over medium, high heat until the mixture begins to simmer.

  • Remove from heat and stir in 2 tablespoons salted butter and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract.

  • Serve as a topping on breakfast or desserts.

Notes

  • Granulated sugar may be used instead of brown sugar.
  • Butter is optional if you need to keep it dairy-free, but it does add an extra level of richness. I recommend adding about 1/8 teaspoon of salt if you omit the butter.
  • You can add 1/4 teaspoon of cinnamon for an extra cozy flavor element that pairs perfectly with fall and winter dishes or a teaspoon of lemon juice for a bright note that pairs well with spring and summer dishes.
  • This recipe can be used with any kind of frozen fruit.
  • Makes about 8 (1/4 cup) servings.
  • I recommend serving warm over hot dishes like waffles and room temperature or cold over cold dishes like cheesecake.
